Visão e História

O Celeiro Air é uma plataforma de diálogo entre arte, ambiente e educação.

Partindo da história do próprio lugar, este projeto, fundado pela artista Mariana Viegas, procura investigar ligações entre produção, trabalho e sustentabilidade.

O programa de residências artísticas Celeiro Air acolhe artistas a trabalhar em qualquer tipo de media com projetos que envolvam questões ambientais e a comunidade local, numa lógica de partilha deste contexto único.

Situada no Parque Natural da Arrábida, a quinta alberga olivais, uma agrofloresta e o antigo atelier de um pintor, local do estúdio da residência e em tempos um celeiro. A ideia central do projeto nasce do cruzamento de várias formas de fazer: produção agrícola e produção artística – sempre em cooperação com a terra.

Ao redor avistam-se as serras de S. Luis e da Arrábida com uma das maiores pedreiras de Portugal. Dista poucos quilometros da cidade portuária industrial de Setúbal e fica a 30 minutos de Lisboa.

Vision and History

Celeiro Air is a platform for dialogue between art, environment and education.

Embracing the history of its locale, this project created by artist Mariana Viegas, seeks to investigate intersections of production, labor, and sustainability. The Celeiro Artist in Residency program welcomes artists working in all mediums to create work that engages environmental issues and the local community. In Portuguese, celeiro means “barn.” The site of the artist in residence studio was once a barn. At the heart of this project is the conceptual exchange between various ways of making: traditional farming and artistic production— each in cooperation with the land.

Located on a multigenerational family farm in the Arrabida Natural Park, the property is home to olive groves, an agroforest, and the former studio of an artist. The farm overlooks the Arrabida mountains and is a short drive from one of the largest quarries in Portugal and from the industrial port city of Setubal and 30 minutes from Lisbon – both historic and current sites of global exchange.
